Erik Deutsch

  • Erik Deutsch (@erikdeutsch) is a media strategist with more than 15 years of experience in PR and buzz marketing. As principal of ExcelPR Group, he has created award-winning campaigns for tech, healthcare and entertainment clients. An early adopter of online tactics, he helped launch Interactive PR News in 1995 as the first national newsletter on new media for PR pros. Erik teaches social media best practices at UCLA Extension and currently blogs at www.PRmashup.com.

    Erik Deutsch is a media strategist, instructor and PR agency principal who has focused his entire career on helping redefine public relations in the digital era.

    Before launching ExcelPR Group in 2004, he spent nearly a decade working for global PR firms and boutique agencies. By linking core PR strategies with the latest digital tactics, he has created award-winning campaigns for blue chip and startup clients in fields ranging from technology and entertainment to healthcare.

    An early adopter of online tactics, Erik helped launch Interactive PR News in 1995 as the first national newsletter on new media for public relations professionals. He continued to serve as editor after the publication was acquired by Phillips Business Information (now Access Intelligence), until returning to full time agency life in 1997. That was also the year he began teaching public relations at UCLA Extension, where he currently instructs a course titled “Best Practices in Social Media for the Communications Professional.”

    Erik serves on the PRSA-LA (Public Relations Society of America, Los Angeles Chapter) board of directors, and is the president for the 2014 term. He earned a masters degree from USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA.
